Capitol Hill UMC is part of the Baltimore-Washington Conference of United Methodist churches. The conference’s Bishop John Schol has launched the Discipleship Adventure program to help pastors, lay people, and churches move forward in making disciples for Jesus Christ.
The Discipleship Adventure lays out five paths for churches and individuals to follow in order to grow and mature in faith.
The first three steps of the Discipleship Adventure are internal ones. We are to:
- Celebrate through worship. We celebrate the significance of God in our lives and live all of life as though it were the worship of God;
- Connect through fellowship. First we connect with God and then with others to build up the body of Christ;
- Develop through study. Through Christian education and the development of spiritual insights, we grow in our understanding of God.
To be fully engaged in the Discipleship Adventure, we have to move outside ourselves. So, the next steps are to:
- Serve in mission and service. Discover the purpose of one’s life through justice and mercy ministries in the community and the world; and
- Share through evangelism. We must witness to and share with others what God has done in our life.
