Opportunities for Children

  • Community is built through joy and play! Our quarterly Kids' Nights provide a safe, high-energy space for children to connect outside of Sunday mornings. These evenings are designed to foster deep friendships, enforce the rhythms of the church year, and offer families a rhythm of support, ensuring that our Beloved Community extends beyond just Sunday morning.

  • We believe faith is a verb, and our children are active participants in building our Beloved Community through service. By moving from "doers" to leaders, our kids practice hospitality and care for our neighbors in tangible ways.

This includes hosting and serving a luncheon for the congregation , assembling essentials and toys during the winter holidays to support D.C. families , and practicing creation care through gardening at the Franciscan Monastery.

Through these projects, our children learn that their hands and hearts are vital tools for justice and love in our city.

  • From our annual Fall Festival and Easter Egg Hunt to milestone celebrations like Bible Reading Workshops and Backpack Blessings, our community is always moving and growing.

These moments are where we celebrate our journey together and welcome new friends into the fold.

To stay in the loop on all our upcoming events and receive our weekly "3 Things to Know" digest, join our mailing list and become an active part of our Beloved Community!

Opportunities for Adults

  • Everybody needs a time to relax and just be in the company of friends new and friends familiar. This is an opportunity for just that! All are invited into this weekly time to find God in casual fellowship and prayer:

    Fridays from 9:00-9:45am
    Ebenezers Coffee House
    201 F St NE, Washington, DC 20002

    Contact: Kelly DeLoach (kelly.deloach@gmail.com)

  • Deepen your faith. Build community. Ask questions.

At CHUMC, we believe that studying Scripture is best done in community. We offer three distinct opportunities to deepen faith.

    1. The Morning Table (Wednesdays @ 9:30 AM) Gather in the Fellowship Hall as part of our Food & Friendship ministry. We share coffee, breakfast, and a study of the Gospel of Luke. It’s a casual, welcoming way to start your morning. Contact: Ryan Clements, Discipleship Director.

    2. Mid-Week Refresh (Wednesdays @ 7:00 PM) Join Rev. Stephanie in the Church Parlor for an evening of reflection and discussion. This group moves through various books and devotional studies, offering a peaceful pause in the middle of the week. Contact: Rev. Stephanie Vader

    3. Thursday Night Live (Thursdays @ 7:00 PM on Zoom) Prefer to connect from home? Join our Thursday Team online for a robust discussion on various books and theological topics. Contact Deacon Sam for the Zoom link.

  • Do you crochet, knit, or do other crafts? Do you want to learn? We’d love for you to join us:

Typically the first Saturday of Each Month
    1:00am-1:00pm
    CHUMC Parlor

Bring your own projects, or participate in one of ours! Bring your friend or child along and share in fellowship over coffee, pastries, and projects!

    Some of our projects include:

    • Making fingerless mitts for those in need;

    • Mending clothes for housed and unhoused neighbors (this will especially be done on the first Sunday of each month in Fellowship Hall during the 12:15 Café lunch)

We also accept donations of unused yarn and crochet hooks!

For additional information, please contact Sue Marullo at sue.marullo@gmail.com.

  • In keeping with our commitment to being an anti-racist church, CHUMC’s Racial Justice Task Force has now grown into the CHUMC Racial Justice Ministry Band. The Task Force had begun to examine every aspect of our church to help us resist and deconstruct any and all forms of racism. NOW – the Racial Justice Ministry Band is helping CHUMC center anti-racism in all it’s dealings and to create, cultivate and maintain that culture. To fulfill our longstanding commitment to be “the heart of God in the community,” we hope to ultimately work to achieve the same anti-racist goal in our Capitol Hill community.

  • Life in the city is busy enough; let your church community be a change of pace. The TNT Group is a relaxed space for newcomers and regulars to slow down and connect. While many of our members participate in various ministries at CHUMC, TNT is simply about making space for one another.

We are a flexible, evolving group that values spending time with each other. Whether you are looking to join a Bible study, find a connection group, or just meet a friendly face on Sunday, we are here to help you get plugged in at your own pace. All ages welcome!

Opportunities for Senior Adults (50+)

  • The SAGE Ministry of CHUMC provides a sacred place for CHUMC seniors (ages 50 and up) to be in ministry with and for one another. SAGE stands for Seniors Always Growing and Evolving, and in this name is captured our mission — to support the spiritual growth and formation of our CHUMC seniors. SAGE is open to all, and we especially invite those over age 60 to join in our meetings and activities.
