Blessing of the Animals & World Communion Sunday

  • Capitol Hil United Methodist Church 421 Seward Square SE Washington United States (map)

Worship Times: 9:00 AM & 10:30 AM (Blessings offered at both services)

Who It’s For: All people—and their four-legged, feathered, or scaled companions!

Join us on Sunday, Oct 4 to celebrate both the wonder of God’s creation and our unity with Christians around the world. During both our 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM worship services, we will celebrate two special traditions:

Blessing of the Animals

In the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, we give thanks for the animals who bring unconditional love, comfort, and joy to our daily lives.

  • Bringing your pet: Well-socialized pets of all shapes and sizes are welcome in the sanctuary! Please ensure dogs are on a secure leash and smaller pets (cats, small critters, birds) are in comfortable carriers.

  • Alternative ways to participate: If your pet is shy, reactive in crowds, or prefers the comforts of home, feel free to bring a favorite photo or a beloved stuffed animal to be blessed instead. We will also take a moment to give thanks for the memory of beloved companion animals who have passed away.

World Communion Sunday

Observed alongside Christian communities worldwide, World Communion Sunday celebrates the rich diversity of the global body of Christ and affirms our shared table of grace.

  • As part of communion, our table will feature a diverse variety of traditional breads from different cultures and countries across the world.

  • No matter who you are, where you come from, or where you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome at Christ's table.

Come as you are, bring your pets, and celebrate community, creation, and connection with us!
