Where We Stand: A Community Pledge to Justice & Support
A Community Gathering to understand, Connect, and Act.
Hosted by Capitol Hill UMC in partnership with Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid.
During significant change and uncertainty for our city, many of us are asking the same question: What can we do?
In response the recent federalization of the MPD and the ongoing, urgent needs of our unhoused neighbors, Capitol Hill UMC is proud to partner with Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid to host "Where We Stand." This is not just a meeting; it’s vital community gathering to move from concern to collective commitment. We are coming together to process what is happening, understand our role, and find tangible ways to build a safer, more compassionate Washington, D.C. for everyone.
What to Expect at the Gathering
We’re creating space for both clarity and opportunity. The evening will include:
An Expert Panel Discussion: Hear directly from a panel of frontline leaders from local mutual aid, advocacy leaders, and direct service providers. They will offer context on the current situation and insight into the most effective ways to help.
A Community Q&A: This is a space for your voice. A dedicated time for open dialogue will allow you to ask questions, share concerns, and contribute to the conversation as we chart a path forward together.
A Pledge to Action: This is where we move from talk to tangible commitment. You will have the opportunity to connect directly with our partner organizations at information tables, learn about different roles, and find the right fit for you to get involved in a meaningful way.

We will be joined by leaders from three incredible organizations doing vital work on the front lines in our city.

Our Ongoing Commitment
Hosting this event is an extension of our church's commitment to living out our faith through action. We believe in pursuing justice and showing up for our neighbors in practical ways—the same values that drive our Food & Friendship ministry, which provides meals and vital resources to those in need every week. This event is another step on that journey, and we invite you to be a part of it.
