CHUMC HONORS AND CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2026

Learning Black history is part of following Christ—so that we may love our neighbors more fully and work toward God’s vision of justice, dignity, and beloved community for all.

Resources for Every Age:

Growing in Faith, Truth, and Justice Together.

As we enter Black History Month, we invite our community to learn Black history through the lens of faith. This is not a separate story from American history, but a sacred truth that helps us understand how racism took root and how God calls us to dismantle it.

Nannie Helen Burroughs reminded us that “racism runs deep in the nation’s bloodstream and must be confronted through education.” Black history reveals how systems, culture, and even theology were used to justify injustice—and how faithful resistance and hope endured.

In a time when history is being distorted or erased, we commit ourselves to truthful memory. Scripture teaches that the truth will set us free, and without truth there can be no repentance, healing, or justice. These resources are offered as an invitation to spiritual growth, deeper discipleship, and faithful witness in the world.

Learning Black history is part of following Christ—so that we may love our neighbors more fully and work toward God’s vision of justice, dignity, and beloved community for all.

We have curated a collection of resources to support your journey of learning—materials designed not only to inform, but to provoke reflection and inspire responsibility.  Check them out!
