Covenant Sunday: Stone Soup

Many Gifts, One Table, All Fed

Worship Times: 9:00 AM & 10:30 AM (Pledge Dedication in both services)

On Covenant Sunday, we gather to celebrate the shared life of our congregation and make our collective commitments for the year ahead through our 2027 stewardship theme: Stone Soup.

In the classic folk story of Stone Soup, a hungry community moves past fear and scarcity not through grit or toughness, but through curiosity, community, and joy. What begins as a single stone in a pot of water transforms into an abundant, nourishing feast once each neighbor steps forward to share what they have—a handful of carrots, a pinch of herbs, or a few beans.

At Capitol Hill UMC, our ministries work the very same way. Every single offering is valued, and when we bring our gifts together, everyone at the table is fed.

Bringing Our Promises to the Altar:

During both morning services, we will invite everyone to bring their 2027 Estimate of Giving (pledge card) forward to the altar as an act of prayer, gratitude, and mutual dedication.

  • Why We Pledge: Pledging isn't just about paying church bills; it’s a spiritual discipline that grows our faith. Practical, yearly pledges are what allow our leadership to build a responsible ministry budget for 2027, ensuring CHUMC can continue to be the heart of God in our neighborhood.

  • Pledging Online or From Home: Prefer paperless giving? You can make or adjust your 2027 pledge anytime securely at chumc.net/give.

  • A Table with Room for All: You do not have to turn in a pledge card to be fully part of worship. Whether you give 10%, are working gradually toward a tithe, or are simply offering your presence and prayers, you are an essential ingredient in our community.

Stay for Lunch Afterward!

Following the 10:30 AM service, our children and youth will be hosting Kids’ Café at 11:30 AM. Join us for a delicious meal and great conversation!
